What to Expect from Call of Duty Vanguard's Caldera Map

by Brittany Vincent 08 Dec 2021
Call of Duty fans, rejoice! With the debut of Call of Duty: Vanguard, there's even more content on the way. Originally announced during the first official Vanguard reveal, the new Pacific-centric map Caldera is on its way. It's an idyllic island paradise that's similar in size and scope to Verdansk, and it's about to drop in just a week, which will mark the birth of Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific. That means it's a better time than ever to grab your Call of Duty: Vanguard Performance Thumbsticks and get ready for some particularly intense, action-packed battles.

In celebration of the impending Caldera launch, we've got some ideas on which parts of the map you might want to start strategizing with in terms of drops, hot zones, and loot. So if you want to be primed and ready to jump into Caldera when it launches, you're going to want to read on. We've got your back, as always, and we want to make sure you're good to hit the ground running when Caldera makes its official debut. What are you waiting for? Let’s go!

What changes are coming to Call of Duty: Warzone?

Everything as we know it! Well, the Warzone map, at least. That's why we're here having this talk. For starters, Caldera is set to completely replace Verdansk, which you might be used to, when it lands on December 9. Right now, you've been able to access Operation: Flashback for some time, a special, limited-time mode meant as an encore for Verdansk players.

It's a "goodbye," if you will, to the map we've all known for so long. Verdansk's presence in the world of Warzone will come to a fitting end with a special end, according to developer Beenox. We may not be saying goodbye forever, but it's safe to say it's going to be quite a while before we see Verdansk again, if we ever do.

What can we expect from the new Caldera map?

The new Call of Duty: Vanguard map Caldera is launching on December 9, and at that time it will replace the Verdansk map in Call of Duty: Warzone. We haven't had a complete look at the map up close just yet, but we do have something of a teaser thanks to Pelle Sjoenell, Activision's chief creative officer. According to his tweet, which showed the Call of Duty map sewn into a bomber jacket, we can see a good number of potential points of interest, in addition to hot zones. Some of the most important areas we can make out from the map include the following:

● Ore Processing Docks
● Naval Shipyard
● Fishing Village
● Airport
● City Capital
● Submarine Base
● Beach Defense
● Ancient Structures
● Caldera Volcano
● Phosphor Mines
● Taro Farms

Since the map will be around the size of Verdansk, according to developer Raven Software, we can expect around the same traversal times from one area to another. Except instead of the environments we saw in Verdansk, we'll get some "lush forests and rocky crags," according to Raven Software, as well as white sand beaches and ruins, in addition to the massive volcano. We can also expect a massive 200 points of interest.

How will Caldera work with Call of Duty: Warzone?

Remember, Caldera's release will see Call of Duty: Warzone transform into Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific. That means all of your player progression, loadouts, items, Operators, Calling Cards, and more will remain the way they are. That's all thanks to the games' cross-progression functionality. All of those things will stay the same, in addition to your profile and other unlocked content. The only thing that will change for you is your Military Rank, which will be reset to 1.

You'll have to start over in terms of earning XP, but the rest of your goodies will be safe. You can rest assured everything you worked painstakingly to bring to life will very much still be there. Most importantly, for anyone who can't wait to play Caldera and the new content, anyone who owns Call of Duty: Vanguard will get to play Caldera first. So that's one good perk, if you needed a reason to get even more excited.

With the Caldera map and all the changes on the way, you might want to start thinking about grabbing a fresh pair of Performance Thumbsticks or even Performance Grips to make sure you're ready to take on the new map as well as the challenges it'll inevitably bring with it. We’re here to make sure you’re ready to deploy, no matter what. And keep coming back for all the gear you can grab to get a leg up on the competition.
